Our Story

People always ask "Where'd the name come from?", but what we think is more important is how we got here.

In the early years, founder and still Chief Designer, Matt Winemiller started this craze back in 1997 when the Cleveland Indians were in the World Series. He started by drawing Chief Wahoo on cardboard for fellow employees at his old job at General Motors. Over the years, Matt wanted to create something new and fresh, so he began experimenting with a layered or 3D look to his current designs.

Over the course of 15 years, the design has had major makeovers. What started on cardboard, then to plywood, then MDF has now went to PVC foam board. What has never changed is Matt's gift of unique and creative design.

In the summer of 2009, the Spazz Monkey revelation was launched. Matt, who left GM when they closed his plant in Mansfield, Ohio, and Don Kaufman, who while unemployed joined Matt, together armed themselves with a dream and a lot of guidance from the Lord above and landed a unique product line of wall decor that has now reached all over the US. We currently have eleven collegiate licenses, are in 3 NHL teams shops, and we are still just beginning to take your fandemonium to the next dimension!

Oh yeah, and how did we come up with the company name?  It came from Matt's son, Bryson, who was hyped up on sugar one night, showing-off for his grandparents and acting all crazy. Matt told him to stop acting like such a "spazz monkey". Something then told Matt that Spazz Monkey was going to be the name of the business. Then, he immediately sketched out the logo, and it just seemed fitting for us all!

We are proud to say we are 100% Made in America. We represent all the "little guys" who have a dream to make a go of it in business. All you need is the idea, the desire, a lot of hard work and the willingness to rely on the wisdom of Jesus Christ to lead you. With Him all things are possible!
